Mario Gheorghiu as a Guest Artist of JAM in Shanghai

String Masterclass at the Music College of Shanghai Normal University!

Mario Gheorghiu is principal violist of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and has been a professor at the Private University for Art and Music (MUK) since 2016.

 He is not only passionate about classical music, but also jazz: in 2000, he was a guest rock violinist in the band "Extravaganza" with Conrad Schrenk and Thomas Lang. He also founded several ensembles such as the jazz ensemble "Table 6" (2003), "Mario Gheorghiu's JAZZ Corner" (2011) and the crossover band "Jetlag Allstars" (2013). He has also performed with the Vienna Art Orchestra, the Velvet Elevators, Wynton Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin, Michael Brecker and many other musicians from the local jazz scene. He has been invited to various jazz festivals in Jakarta, Bali, Paris, Osaka, Boston and Bilbao and is a regular guest as a jazz violinist in Vienna at the Porgy & Bess and Jazzland jazz clubs.

We are therefore delighted, that he was also able to hold a string masterclass at the Music College of Shanghai Normal University as a "Guest Artist of JAM" during the RSO China Tour 2024. (c) Julia Wesely
