Fritz Hauser & Ensemble of JAM MUSIC LAB
Drumvoice / Schraffur für Ruprecht
Vienna’s oldest surviving church becomes the resonant setting for an extraordinary percussive adventure. Swiss percussionist and sound artist Fritz Hauser presents his latest solo work, Drumvoice, before developing a new version of his Schraffur series together with an ensemble of JAM MUSIC LAB Private University Vienna: Schraffur für Ruprecht.
This hour-long percussion concert in Vienna does more than use the Ruprechtskirche as its venue—it transforms the entire building into an instrument. Architecture, acoustics, drums, voices and other sound sources merge into an immersive experience of experimental music and collective improvisation.
Drumvoice
In his new solo work, Fritz Hauser combines drum and voice into a single sonic vehicle. Pulses, rhythms and breath create unexpected associations and atmospheres, carrying the audience into an archaic world of sound.
Schraffur für Ruprecht
Schraffur is based on a distinctive playing technique that draws rhythms from instruments beyond conventional melody and harmony. As the sounds of the ensemble come together, they create a multilayered, elemental resonance.
The work is a precisely structured collective improvisation in which every musician contributes to the whole. There are no solos, predetermined motifs or written score. Tension, dynamics and transparency emerge entirely in the moment through the shared focus and energy of the ensemble.
A direct encounter with pulse, space and sound. Pure energy.
