Koen Maes - „The Business of Orchestra Management“ & „The Role of Artists in Society"

Koen Maes, General manager & executive producer of the Grammy Nominated Brussels Jazz Orchestra, is joining JAM with two classes on the topics „The Business of Orchestra Management“, „The Role of Artists in Society".


Koen Maes graduated in 1999 as Master in Music - trumpet (Luca School of Arts -  campus Lemmens, Leuven). 
In 2010 he studied General Management at the Vlerick Business School.

He joined the Brussels Jazz Orchestra in 2000.
He developed the creative programming, funding and international career of BJO.
Under his leadership, BJO toured in N-America, Europe, Asia and South-Africa. 

Koen is a board member of the OKO network (advocate & employers federation and network for professional arts organizations in Flanders and Brussels) and manages Jazz ‘n Beyond, a boutique music agency. 

Since 2020, Koen is co-titular at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp for the Artist in Society class. In 2021 he initiated & coordinates RCA Sessions, a unique concept of live streaming where students see their audience to give them optimal circumstances of building stage experience in locked-in times.

Koen, father of Lowie and Flor, loves outdoor life, motor biking (and is almost instructor), sailing and finally traded in his trumpet for electric bass since the Covid pandemic.
