JAM MUSIC LAB Joins MishMash Centre for AI and Creativity

JAM MUSIC LAB Private University is now an associate member of MishMash Centre for AI and Creativity, a Norwegian research network exploring artificial intelligence in and through creative practice.

MishMash brings together more than 200 researchers from the arts, sciences and humanities. Its work focuses on the relationship between humans, machines and society—investigating not only new AI technologies, but also their cultural, ethical, legal and social implications.

At MishMash, creativity is not simply used to communicate research conducted elsewhere. Art is the subject of research, a method of inquiry and a way of developing and sharing new knowledge. This practice-based approach closely reflects JAM MUSIC LAB’s commitment to artistic research, music technology and the critical exploration of AI in music and education.

JAM MUSIC LAB is represented within the network by Mark Holub, Michael Kahr and Monika Herzig. Through its participation, the university joins an international community working on subjects such as AI-supported artistic processes, human–machine collaboration, creative education and the future of the cultural and creative industries.

The associate membership creates new opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange, collaborative research and dialogue between musicians, artists, technologists and researchers. At the same time, JAM contributes its perspective as a music university where artistic practice, experimentation and academic research are closely connected.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how music is created, performed, taught and experienced, cooperation across disciplines becomes increasingly important. Joining MishMash enables JAM MUSIC LAB to take an active role in this conversation—with creativity and human artistic agency at its centre.
