Advancing Gender Representation in European Jazz: The New Standards in Europe Project

Jam Music Lab Private University’s Vice Rector and Professor of Artistic Research, Monika Herzig, is the principal investigator for the Creative Europe Project New Standards from Europe in partnership with Schott Verlag and the Italian Musicians Organization MIDJ. From 10th to 12th October 2025 14 Experts from all European Regions gathered to evaluate and discuss jazz compositions by female European jazz musicians towards a collection of 101 New Standards. The selected compositions will be published in lead sheet format by the German Schott Verlag in 2027, similar to the recent US collection spearheaded by Berklee’s Terri Lyne Carrington: New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers. It was an intense, but productive week, thanks to the dedication and knowledge of the group of experts and Jam Music Lab Private University is proud to host this ground-breaking project. Publication Date: March 2027
