A Day at The Red Bull Media Studios in Salzburg

For students of Media Music at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna, professional practice is not something abstract — it becomes real the moment they step into the environments where music, sound, image, and technology meet. On a one-day trip to Salzburg, JAM students had the opportunity to visit the Red Bull Media Studios and gain direct insight into contemporary audio production, video editing, sound design, and media workflows in a professional setting.

During the visit, the students met audio and video editors, engineers, and creative professionals working behind the scenes. They got a closer look at how ideas move from concept to finished production and how much precision is required at every stage of the process. One of the particularly memorable moments of the day came when a sound editor spoke about the many details that have to be considered in professional work — from tiny sonic decisions to the overall emotional impact of the final result.

Another highlight was the tour through the Red Bull campus, where historic architecture and modern technology meet in a striking way. For the students, this was more than just an architectural impression: it was a vivid example of how creative identity, innovation, and professional media culture can be brought together in one place.

The group also had the chance to take part in a feedback session with the head of Red Bull’s music department. For young composers, producers, and media music creators, that kind of direct exchange is especially valuable. It offered not only practical feedback, but also a clearer sense of what matters in today’s professional world of music production, media composition, post-production, and creative collaboration.

For JAM MUSIC LAB, experiences like this are an important part of what music education in Vienna and Austria should offer today: strong artistic training, close contact with the industry, and direct insight into real professional practice. For the students, the day in Salzburg was inspiring, motivating, and full of new perspectives — a reminder that Media Music studies in Vienna can open doors far beyond the classroom.
