Julia Hofer nominated as newcomer for 2025 Austrian Jazz Award

Versatile bassist Julia Hofer has been shortlisted as one of the most exciting emerging musicians in the European jazz scene, nominated for the 2025 Jazz Award in the category Newcomer. Born in Klagenfurt in 1994, Hofer is known for her expressive work on electric bass, fretless bass, and cello, shaping the jazz landscape in Austria and Germany. After studies in Vienna, Cologne, and Mannheim, she now teaches at the JAM MUSIC LAB Private University as well as at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt, mentoring the next generation of musicians.

Alongside her teaching, she is a member of the Orchestra of Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and reaches a global audience with her Thomann tutorial videos, which have millions of views. In 2025, Hofer launches a new duo project with renowned pianist David Helbock. Her upcoming album on the prestigious ACT Music label – featuring artists such as Lorenz Raab and Veronika Harcsa – will be performed on a 70+ concert tour, including festivals like the Leverkusener Jazztage.

By combining her educational work at the JAM MUSIC LAB Private University with artistic versatility and technical mastery, Julia Hofer is one of the most compelling new voices in European jazz.
