Herbie Hancock International Jazz Vocals Competition 2026: Live from Paris
On October 10 and 11, 2026, some of the world’s most promising young jazz singers will meet in Paris for the Herbie Hancock Institute International Jazz Vocals Competition. Dedicated to jazz vocals this year, the renowned competition continues its mission of identifying and supporting the next generation of jazz artists.
Produced by JAM’s own Jeff Levenson, we’re proud to share a common goal with the Institute—that is, to nurture and develop young artists whose music will expand jazz’s great traditions.
Over the years, JAM and the Herbie Hancock Institute have partnered in this endeavour. Though the Competition occurs once a year, our mission is enacted daily. It is a cornerstone ideal. This connection was also strengthened last summer, when Dr. JB Dyas, Vice President for Education and Curriculum Development at the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, visited JAM.
This year marks the first time the Competition has taken place outside the United States. Eleven young vocalists from around the world will perform at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, accompanied by pianist Carmen Staaf, bassist Ben Williams and drummer Kendrick Scott.
The Finals will be followed by an All-Star Gala Concert featuring Ambrose Akinmusire, Monty Alexander, Patti Austin, John Beasley, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Terri Lyne Carrington, Herbie Hancock, John Patitucci, Danilo Pérez, Gregory Porter, Arturo Sandoval and Walter Smith III, with a special appearance by Gustavo Dudamel.
All JAM students, staff and friends are welcome to view the Competition and star-studded gala via YouTube, streamed live and free on the homepage of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz.
