4th Anniversary of Center for Artistic Research at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna
Happy 4th Birthday to the Center for Artistic Research at JAM MUSIC LAB - Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna!
On 15th of June 2022, the Center for Artistic Research at JAM was officially inaugurated. The establishment of the Center was made possible by essential kickstart funding from Stadt Wien Kultur. Since then, we have reached several important academic milestones, including the accreditation of the artistic doctoral program, the successful acquisition of third-party funded projects (Austrian Science Fund, Stadt Wien Kultur, European Union), the regular organization of international conferences, the launch of the ARJAZZ Journal for Artistic Research in Jazz, and the transformation of the International Network for Artistic Research in Jazz (INARJ) as a Special Interest Group of the Society for Artistic Research. In sum, JMLU has successfully established a new, highly specialized and internationally well-connected research institution dedicated to Artistic Research in Jazz and Popular Music. Appraisal for our endeavors was also given by Dr. Heinz Fischer, the former federal president of Austria. INARJ's history is documented via https://artisticjazzresearch.com/, a review of the kick-off event can be found here:
These achievements have been coordinated by JMLU university professors for artistic research Dr. Michael Kahr (chair of the Center for Artistic Research) and Dr. Monika Herzig with support from all JMLU staff members, in particular rector Univ.-Prof. Marcus Ratka and vice rectors Univ.-Prof. Ernst Theis and Univ.-Prof. Richard Graf.
