Erasmus+ Guest Lectures by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Kahr at Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (KCB)
The Erasmus+ exchange program conducted by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Kahr upon invitation to the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (KCB) consisted of two parts:
On 25th of February 2026 all day, Kahr was invited as an internationally recognized expert on artistic research in jazz and guest speaker at the jazz research day of the research group Jazz, Improvised & Popular Music, organized by Prof. Dr. Matthias Heyman. Kahr worked with KCB master and PhD students, providing critical feedback to their individual projects, and offered two lectures on “Collaborative Networks, Organizations and Shared Infrastructures in Artistic Research: Implications for Jazz and Popular Music Education and Career Development” and “Artistic Research in Jazz and Popular Music: Theories, Positions, Methods”. The full program was published by KCB at https://www.kcb.be/en/calendar/jazz-research-day.
From 25th to the 27th of February 2026, Kahr’s work took part within the fifth edition of the International Network for Artistic Research in Jazz (INARJ), which was also held at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (KCB). Kahr participated in his roles as the INARJ founder and member of the network’s steering committee. He delivered parts of the opening address, was an invited panelist of the discussion on the establishment of the new ARJAZZ Journal for Artistic Research in Jazz with colleagues from JMLU and Birmingham City University jazz cluster, provided peer-review of presentations of senior researchers and PhD students and participated in the networking opportunities provided by this event. Around twenty researchers, artists and musicians from around the world were present, both online and in-person, in Brussels to discuss the conference theme Places and Spaces, which was an invitation to reflect on the future of jazz, both in practice and in research. INARJ was founded by Kahr at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music in 2019.
