Since 2020, DEVELOPING COLOURS  has brought together people from a wide range of musical and cultural backgrounds in an atmosphere that is open, welcoming, and made for dancing. It creates a space for connection, exchange, and creative expression – a community that not only celebrates diversity but actively lives it. DEVELOPING COLOURS aims to be a safer space where people can be seen through their individual perspectives, identities, and forms of expression, while celebrating together and discovering new colours. The strong presence of students and alumni from JAM MUSIC LAB Private University and the Friedrich Gulda School of Music – both on and behind the stage – highlights the event’s role as a platform for the next generation of creative artists. Together, they create an evening that celebrates diversity, strengthens community, and demonstrates the power of music to connect people.

This diversity is especially evident this year through the strong involvement of students and alumni from JAM MUSIC LAB Private University and the Friedrich Gulda School of Music. Many of the artists featured in the line-up are developing their creative projects within the university environment or have completed important stages of their musical education there. DEVELOPING COLOURS is organized and curated by Patrick Meerwald, Head of Marketing at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University.

Musically, DEVELOPING COLOURS #6 is just as multifaceted as its community. Atmospheric and epic pop meets funky beats, groovy disco vibes, and indie sounds full of feel-good energy. The artists explore themes such as self-determination, self-love, queerness, mental health, and empowerment. This year’s entire line-up is at least FLINTA-fronted, bringing a wide range of voices, stories, and creative perspectives to the stage.

BIRCH!

With her music, BIRCH! creates a space where self-love, vulnerability, and strength coexist. Her songs explore personal growth, female empowerment, and the courage to trust oneself again and again. Rather than striving for perfection, her music focuses on honesty, connection, and the power of shared experiences.

The project is led by Elena Lipa, a student at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University. Together with her ensemble, she brings her artistic vision to life on stage. The line-up includes JAM alumna Jay Choma as well as drummer Julian Ritzlmayer, who studied at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music. This combination of diverse artistic backgrounds is reflected in the warmth and openness that define BIRCH!’s music.

ReaLie MESSY

ReaLie MESSY perfectly represents the creative collaboration fostered at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University. The project, led by Rie Verdino and Lea Lammerhuber, consists entirely of JAM students and demonstrates how authentic, independent music can emerge through artistic collaboration and shared development.

Moving effortlessly between funky grooves, emotional moments, and danceable lightness, the two frontwomen playfully alternate their roles on stage. At times one takes center stage, then the other. Everything about the performance feels vibrant, open, and full of creative energy. The result is a show that connects people and highlights the inspiring possibilities of making music together.

DISCO VERTIGO

DISCO VERTIGO bring exactly the kind of energy that DEVELOPING COLOURS stands for: being loud, feeling deeply, and dancing together. Blending shimmering disco vibes, indie rock, and driving bass lines, their songs explore queerness, mental health, and the emotional highs and lows of long nights. Their sound feels like a safer space in the middle of a dance floor – honest, energetic, and liberating.

The band also features drummer Paul Gall, a current student at JAM MUSIC LAB Private University, whose musical voice contributes to the band's distinctive sound.

Special Guest: WOLFISH

WOLFISH will provide one of the evening’s most intimate live moments. The singer-songwriter will perform songs that have never been heard live before, creating an honest and personal space filled with emotion and new sonic colours.

Her music moves between delicate vulnerability and powerful intensity. Inspired by a deep connection to nature and the symbolism of the wolf, WOLFISH creates a musical world that brings people together, empowers them, and resonates on an emotional level. Her songs acknowledge wounds, transform vulnerability into strength, and create moments of empowerment, connection, and inner resilience – supported by a community that follows her voice like the call of the “Wolf Mother.”
