The New Standards Real Book: Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme 2027

JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna is hosting the international Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme “THE NEW STANDARDS REAL BOOK. 101 PIECES BY WOMEN EUROPEAN JAZZ COMPOSERS” from 17–22 May 2027.
About the Programme
Initiated and artistically led by Monika Herzig, jazz pianist and Vice-Rector for Diversity and Internationalization at JAM MUSIC LAB, the programme brings together students from our partner institutions to explore jazz compositions by women, develop their own interpretations and present their work in a public final concert.
The programme focuses on repertoire from the new Schott publication THE NEW STANDARDS REAL BOOK. 101 PIECES BY WOMEN EUROPEAN JAZZ COMPOSERS, a collection that expands and diversifies the contemporary jazz canon. Working in international combos, students rehearse, arrange and interpret selected compositions throughout the week.
Online Preparation
An online preparatory session will take place before the on-site programme in Vienna. The date and further details will be announced shortly.
Programme Activities
Alongside daily rehearsals and ensemble work, the programme includes:
- Masterclasses in improvisation and rhythm section performance
- Ensemble coaching by renowned jazz mentors
- Workshops
- Discussions on the historical, cultural and social factors behind the underrepresentation of women in instrumental jazz
- Networking events and jam sessions
Public Final Concert
The week culminates in a public final concert, which will be live-streamed and recorded.
Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, the project reflects JAM MUSIC LAB’s commitment to international collaboration, artistic excellence and greater inclusion in jazz education and performance.
