Nina Feldgrill shortlisted for the 2025 Austrian Jazz Award – Running for Best Album

Viennese electric bassist and composer Nina Feldgrill has been shortlisted for the 2025 Jazz Award in the category Best Album with her self-titled debut release. The young musician already attracted attention last year when she was nominated as Newcomer of the Year, finishing in second place, and in 2024 she was awarded the prestigious Ö1 Jazz Scholarship, during which the album’s recordings were made.

With Nina Feldgrill, the 1999-born artist presents three distinct ensembles that showcase her wide-ranging musical interests: the Modern Jazz quartet river, founded in 2022; the experimental project Wind’s Whispers by vocalist Saba Robatjazy, blending jazz, Eastern folk, pop, and electronic sounds; and Feldgrill², a special collaboration with her father, bassist and composer Werner Feldgrill. The album has received international attention and has been featured by SWR Kultur (DE), Blue in Green Radio (UK), and BRF1 (BEL), among others.

Nina Feldgrill is considered one of the most exciting new voices in the Austrian jazz scene. She has collaborated with leading figures such as Thomas Kugi and Oliver Gattringer, performs with various ensembles, and leads her own projects, including river, with which she has appeared at renowned venues like Porgy & Bess and at festivals such as the Outreach Festival, Herbstgold Festival, and TTAT Festival.
