From Ö1 Jazz Scholarship winner to Alumnus to lecturer: Robert Unterköfler joins JAM MUSIC LAB Private University Faculty

Robert Unterköfler is joining JAM MUSIC LAB Private University as a lecturer. The Austrian saxophonist, composer and educator knows the university not only as an artist and musician, but also from his own academic path: Unterköfler completed his Master’s degree in Music Education at JAM and was the first winner of the prestigious Ö1 Jazz Scholarship in 2018.

His career reflects the permeability and professional orientation of JAM MUSIC LAB University. Studying music at JAM means more than developing artistic skills. It means becoming part of a creative and professional network that can continue to shape careers beyond graduation. Unterköfler went from being a student to an active musician with his own projects such as Rote Welt, river, sidrat and slowklang, numerous releases, and collaborations with ensembles including Christian Muthspiel’s Orjazztra Vienna, the Valentin Duit Quartett and the JAMLab Allstar Band featuring Peter Erskine.

The fact that graduates can later become lecturers themselves is a strong example of what JAM stands for as a private university for music in Vienna: practice-oriented music studies, artistic development, professional exchange and direct connections to the contemporary music scene. With Robert Unterköfler, JAM welcomes a lecturer who brings together academic experience, artistic work and pedagogical practice.
