JMLU Vice Rector Monika Herzig awarded Jazz Road Creative Residency 2025
JAM MUSIC LAB Private University is proud to announce that Dr. Monika Herzig, Vice Rector and Professor of Jazz Research and Performance, has been selected as one of 15 recipients of the prestigious Jazz Road Creative Residencies 2025 program, presented by South Arts.
Dr. Herzig will receive a grant of up to $40,000 to carry out a self-designed artistic residency at The Hundredth Hill in Bloomington, Indiana. Her project addresses the rising issue of transphobia, aiming to raise awareness and foster community resilience through jazz.
During the residency, Dr. Herzig will compose a suite of jazz works reflecting on the topic, with a planned recording release in early 2026.
The program is generously supported by the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mellon Foundation, as part of the national Jazz Road Initiative — providing artists with freedom and support to create, explore, and connect with communities across the U.S.
