JAM Media Music Students Record Their Compositions with String Orchestra at Vienna City Sound Studio

At JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna, Media Music students gain direct insight into the professional world of studio recording, orchestration, and composition for strings. In a recent project at the Vienna City Sound studio, original compositions by JAM Media Music students were recorded with a string orchestra, giving students the opportunity to experience the complete creative and technical workflow of a professional recording session.

From the very first steps, students were involved in the full preparation process: writing the full score for the conductor, creating the individual orchestral parts for each string section, and shaping the musical details of their works. This included artistic decisions about dynamics, articulation, phrasing, and the overall sonic character of the composition — essential elements in film music, media composition, orchestral writing, and professional music production.

The recording session gave students valuable hands-on experience in how a composition moves from the written page into a real studio performance. Projects like this reflect the strong practical focus of JAM MUSIC LAB Private University, where Media Music, composition, arranging, recording, and music production in Vienna are taught in direct connection with the professional music industry.

For students interested in film scoring, game audio, orchestration, string writing, and studio production, this kind of real-world experience is a central part of studying at JAM MUSIC LAB — turning musical ideas into professionally recorded sound.
