JAM teacher Thomas Gansch Named Honorary Member of the Wiener Konzerthaus
Thomas Gansch has been unanimously appointed an honorary member of the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft. The honor was presented during his 106th concert at the venue—the Schlagertherapie IX in the Mozart Hall—shortly before Gansch’s 50th birthday. Gansch first appeared at the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2000 with the brass ensemble Mnozil Brass.
Wiener Konzerthaus Director Matthias Naske praised Gansch as an outstanding musician and cultural ambassador with wide-ranging artistic versatility, equally at home in traditional brass music and sophisticated jazz. Previous honorary members of the Konzerthaus include members of the Vienna Philharmonic, percussionist Martin Grubinger, soprano Elīna Garanča, and conductor Teodor Currentzis, as well as Gansch’s own inspiration, Wynton Marsalis. In addition to his internationally celebrated performance career, Gansch serves as a professor of trumpet at the JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music in Vienna, where he teaches and mentors aspiring musicians and leads the Institute for WindInstruments.
Known for boundary-crossing projects such as Gansch & Roses and his distinctive “Ganschhorn,” the trumpeter has established himself as one of Austria’s most influential jazz figures, performing worldwide and collaborating with renowned artists.
