“Spotlight Beast”: Redefining Stage Presence – A New Band Contest Debuts in Liesing, Vienna
On April 18, 2026, the F23 concert hall in Vienna-Liesing will transform into a stage for the inaugural “Spotlight Beast” contest. This event is dedicated to the one element that often decides a band’s success: live performance. It’s not just about playing the notes correctly; it’s about creating a "Gesamtkunstwerk" (total work of art) that captivates the audience through charisma, presence, and raw energy.
Eligibility
- Bands from all over Austria (2 to max. 8 members).
- Unsigned (no current label contract).
- No age limit, no genre restrictions.
Selection & Finals
Evaluation is conducted by the audience and an expert jury (including representatives from mica, Noise Appeal, Jam Music Lab, and One Voice Lab).
- The Finale: The top 4 bands will be selected to perform on April 18th.
- Stage Time: 20–25 minutes per band.
- Equipment: Backline and drum set provided (please bring your own cymbals, snare, and kick pedal).
Prizes & Opportunities
The jury will decide live at the contest which bands receive which prizes:
- Song Production: Professional studio recording.
- Live Performance: A slot at the Liesinger Frühlingsfest.
- EPK Package: Complete Electronic Press Kit including professional photos.
- Recording & Coaching: Live recording, workshop slots, and styling consultancy.

A defining feature of “Spotlight Beast” is the strategic involvement of the JAM MUSIC LAB Private University. As a key partner, the university lends its academic weight and artistic prestige to the competition. This collaboration emphasizes the importance of professional mentorship in the transition from rehearsal room to the big stage. With jury members the university ensures that artistic evaluation meets international standards. For JAM MUSIC LAB, this project is a vital extension of its mission to support emerging artists in a real-world, high-stakes professional environment.
A Night of High-Octane Performance
Three finalist bands, selected from a wide range of genres including Rock, Pop, Indie, and Soul, will each have 20 to 25 minutes to win over both the jury and the crowd. A fourth band, recipient of a special prize, will also perform. The expert jury consists of industry leaders from mica, Noise Appeal, and specialized media, providing participants with invaluable exposure. The audience also holds power, acting as the eighth "juror" to help crown the winner.
Community and Cultural Impact
Hosted by the dynamic duo Schwarzwald & Seidl, the evening promises to be a seamless blend of high-energy music and professional production. Supported by the City of Vienna and the District of Liesing, the contest is a collaborative effort between One Voice Lab, F23, Junge Theater Wien, and JAM MUSIC LAB Private University. By keeping ticket prices accessible (€7 pre-sale, €10 at the event), the organizers invite the local community to witness the birth of a new cultural landmark in Vienna’s 23rd district.
